In early May, our consortium partner, the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Leiden University, shared some key RESOURCE project findings at the Regional Studies Association’s Annual Conference – Navigating Regional Transformation, held from 6 to 8 May 2025 at the University of Porto (Portugal).
The presentation explored the drivers of innovation in regional circular economies, offering valuable insights for more effective and targeted policy development. During the special session on “Technological Trajectories, Socio-economic Dynamics and Regional Determinants of Biogas Production and the Circular Economy,” they showed how two decades of patent data were used to examine which regions across 38 OECD countries are leading or lagging in circular economy innovations. The presentation also underscored the instrumental role of advanced producer service firms in driving regional progress in circular economy innovation.
The session sparked lively discussions, where fellow researchers and stakeholders provided valuable insights and feedback that have further enriched the RESOURCE project ongoing work.
